Self-education

The contact hours are not the only moments to learn about architecture and/or urbanism. There is a massive amount of knowledge and insight you can acquire without a professor’s help. This page contains lists of books relating to the various fields, links to websites that contain great inspirational projects throughout the world, and links to tutorials for software frequently used by architecture and urbanism students. You can use this page to broaden your horizon, or to find more in-depth knowledge on a specific topic.

These pages are continuously added to. For this, we need your help. If you know about a great book, website, tutorial, youtube channel, or anything else you think should be on our website, please share it with us! Many students will benefit from it.

Books

Books are great. A good pastime when you are bored, but also definitely worth making time for. There is an extremely wide array of books on architecture as well as urbanism. There are books available to borrow at the AnArchi desk, but our collection is a fraction of what is out there. With so many books to choose from, it might be quite a job to figure out what is useful or interesting for you. On this page, we present you with a selection of books, recommended by both the internet and professors at the TU/e. You can filter them by discipline to narrow your search, or just browse through. If you find a book you think you like, you can check whether it is available in the TU/e library. Of course, you can also buy every book off the internet or in a bookstore.

Websites

Doing everything in a project all by yourself can be an incredible waste of time. Every project, concept, drawing and design takes inspiration from other projects, and there is a wide range of tools that can help you with almost every step of the design process. By studying many different projects, you really come to find your own principles, desires and style. We all know Pinterest, but there is a lot more to discover. Furthermore, when making drawings we sometimes don’t realise how useful some tools and websites can be. On this page you find links to websites that highlight projects, show the works of certain firms, and websites that offer useful tools or products such as images for renders or information about a city, the buildings in it, or their residents.

Tutorials

Software programs are an essential part of our future, and having a good understanding of the different programs puts you ahead of the competition on the job market. Although there are software programs that offer near unlimited possibilities, it can sometimes take a while to really get acquainted with a program, and after years you still discover functions and tools that would have saved you a lot of sleep. On this page, you find useful tutorials and channels that show you the ins and outs of different software programs, so you can make your digital models, designs and drawings exactly as you want them.
